Little Bo Peep and her Ba Ba Black Sheep

My new obsession: this black sheep sweater from Forever 21. I can’t get enough of it. I’ve worn it to work. I’ve worn it out. I’ve taken countless selfies. I’m obsessed.

IMG_6554IMG_6556IMG_6527Toni, Me, Rach & Cassie ^^ We had a girl’s night out last weekend 🙂 We bar-hopped all over, and it made me even more excited for Cassie’s (far right) bachelorette party I’m putting together next month!

The above-mentioned sweater is one of a few things I have been able to pick up this year with my limited clothing-fund (aka…whatever I sell or am gifted). I bought:

  • Black sheep sweater
  • Navy/mint-striped boxy boyfriend cardigan (below)
  • A gold cross-link necklace (also below)
  • Ivory cable-knit tights
  • Ivory cardigan

I used two $20 gift cards and spent $14.83 out of my fund @ Forever 21. I wore the bf cardi today:

IMG_658456715030-02I also picked up this navy quilted jacket from Old Navy in January for @ $28.95 (reg. $55):

zI had a mini H&M haul with some V-day money as well, but I’ll save that for my next post!

Minty Peplum + Baby Shower

Yesterday we had a surprise baby shower for one of my good friends from work. A couple of us girls had this planned for about a month and we even had her husband help surprise her! The beautiful momma’s little one is due on March 18th, although most of us think he’ll be here in the next 2-3 weeks 🙂 I wore shades of blue and mint to go with some of the decor, naturally, ha. Here’s a shot of my outfit:

And some close-ups/shower pics:

Experimenting w/ Colors

I’ve never been so thankful for 40 degree weather! I can’t believe it’s supposed to stay this way all week, what a treat! 😀 I have forgotten what grass looks like…

In anticipation of this “warm” weather and the (eventual) coming of spring, I have been trying some bright color-combinations that I wouldn’t normally have thought to put together. It seems this is my favorite thing to do now on Sunday afternoons. At least it makes getting ready in the morning much easier when I know what I am going to wear in advance!

Black waist-belt: Forever 21

Black fringed booties: Target

Also, here is a pic from my “Chocolate & Beer Valentine’s 5k” this weekend. Despite our “meh” race time and the amount of snow we had to run through, we placed 12/40 couples! I’m okay with that 🙂

IMG_6477XO loves.

Be Mine, Valentine :)

This year’s Valentines Day didn’t start off that great, seeing as how my curling iron broke HALF-way through curling my hair! The spring shot out of the base, causing the barrel to go limp. In my attempt to remedy it, I burned myself twice…fool! Oh well, luckily I had a large barrel iron as a backup that I used to at least provide some volume to the other side

IMG_6366Dress: Target (I got this dress on clearance last year at Target for around $11. What a steal! This isn’t really a piece I had to go out of my way to pair with anything. I actually wear it quite a lot/year-round!)

I forgot to take a picture of yesterday’s outfit, but I put together what I wore on my app. Nothing super special here:

IMG_6372My handsome boyfriend got me flowers for V-day and is making me dinner tonight 🙂 Tomorrow we’re doing a 5k together, which can’t be worse than last month’s race in a foot of snow and sub-zero temps! What are your Valentines plans??

Mixing Prints: Floral + Houndstooth

I’ve decided: I’m buying a DSLR camera with my tax refund. Partly because of my blog, partly because I’ve always wanted one, but (!!!) mostly because I am getting a puppy this spring! Suggestions for cameras are very welcome, as I have no clue what I should be looking for. Until then, here are more crappy photos with my phone 🙂

Floral + Polka Dots

In all my hustle and bustle of trying to match blouses and sweaters this winter season, I’ve completely neglected my dress collection. Despite the fact that it was -3 degrees when I stepped out of the house this morning, I was determined to wear a dress to work. Bring on the ugly pantyhose…

Love the lace collar on this cardi. This cardigan was one of Forever 21’s “Exclusive Design Collection” pieces last spring I think? It’s a bit too short to wear w/ pants for me, but it’s the perfect length for a dress shrug. It makes me feel so dainty and feminine! 😀

Also…I dyed my hair last night (it’s difficult to see in the picture), but I’m not ready to talk about it…

Bowties + Smashbox

Happy Tuesday everyone 🙂 I spent several hours on Sunday trying to get re-inspired by my (what sometimes feels like) limited closet collection. I came up with a bunch of new ideas for pieces I have been hanging onto, but only have worn once!! Unfortunately…they are all paired with skirts…and it’s not supposed to get above 30 here all week. Le sigh…

Realizing that on Monday morning, I somehow managed to pull together something slightly warmer. Yesterday’s LOTD:

20140210-211946.jpg Cream v-neck sweater: Forever 21
Burgundy bow-tie blouse: Forever 21 (I’ve owned this blouse for two years…and I shamefully admit this is the first time I’ve worn it. I knew it was pretty and feminine, but I never knew what to pair with it! Hello new fave sweater/blouse combo!)
Gray skinnies: Delia’s
Burgundy almond-toe wedges: Forever 21

20140210-211957.jpgSince it was Monday, I also put together my “Makeup-Monday” LOTD: “Smashbox Try-It Kit.” This kit retails for $19 and I’ve seen it at Sephora and Ulta, but I’m sure they have it elsewhere. The 5-piece kit includes:

img-thing .out=jpg&size=l&tid=73874357-Smashbox Photo-Finish Oil-Free Foundation Primer
-Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer
-Smashbox Lipgloss in Illume
-Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara
-Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx

FOTD, order of application, and review:

20140210-212006*Smashbox Photo-Finish Oil-Free Foundation Primer – I was expecting this to be a white lotion-y cream, but it was actually a translucent gel. It goes on silky smooth and has no odor to it. I will be using this again!

Smashbox CC Cream in Light – this was a sample packet I had received in one of my many beauty hauls and I have to say, I was not impressed. I applied this generously all over my face but it quickly turned cakey and became difficult to rub into the skin, making me somewhat self-conscious all day of that too-much-makeup look :/

Bareminerals Mineral Veil Compact in Translucent

*Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer – again with the cakeyness. I felt it was difficult to rub into the skin and actually felt a little rough. I think I’ll stick with my TooFaced Lid Primer 🙂

Eyelash curler

*Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara – I am a big fan of this mascara. Truthfully, I already had this mascara before I got it in the try-it kit. I saved the unopened sample-size provided in the try-it kit for a possible giveaway in the future (same goes for the eyeliner! Woot!). This is the best mascara I have tried out of my dozen or so I’ve accumulated over the holiday season. It glides onto the lashes so easily and only take a couple strokes to really increase the length! It isn’t waterproof though…my only complaint.

*Smashbox Limitless Eye Liner in Onyx – HELP!!! Oh pencil liners, how I have such difficulty applying you to the upper lash line. I went the safe route and only used on my bottom lash line for a more dramatic effect. This pencil goes on so easily and the color payoff is strong.—–I found it difficult to sharpen w/o breaking, so if anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE comment–whether about application or a good pencil sharpener. I literally wasted HALF of it already trying to sharpen…but it broke every time i pressed it to my eye after that!

Tarte Sugar-Lip Scrub

*Smashbox Lipgloss in Illume – Usually lipglosses drive me crazy–they’re sticky, my hair always gets stuck in them, and they dry out my lips. This one, however, went on rather evenly. It goes on nude with a brilliant shine. Just like the Nars gloss blogged about previously, I actually managed to keep this one on for a full three hours! 🙂

The pieces in this kit are absolutely worth trying for only $19! So add it to your wish-list 🙂

5 months down! 7 to go…

Well, I’m five-months through my “No-Shopping-For-A-Year” challenge…and I have to say, even though it’s been tough at times, it has not been nearly as difficult as I thought it would be. I’m glad I gave myself a little bit of wiggle room when it came to certain aspects of the challenge, but I credit my good behavior to a group of incredibly supportive friends!

Anyhow, here are some shots from my last weekend!

Black jeggings: Target (Mossimo)
Gold-chain necklace: gift
Burgundy boots: Forever 21

IMG_6220I’m sorry about the incredibly bad lighting of so many photos. My phone, though it has a decent camera, has a hard time differentiating between different dark shades. I often have to use some camera apps to draw out the true colors (such as above). I absolutely ADORE the look of these boots. They truly embrace one of my favorite edgier styles, but they are nearly impossible to wear. I only wore them on Sat night because I knew I would be sitting 95% of the time. I think I’m going to have to sell them 😥

IMG_6226Some of my new favorite accessories ^^ Bailee & Bernie ❤

IMG_6224The delicious dunkaroo shot w/ the lovely Toni! It’s made with Rumchata…and I cannot remember what else…vanilla or cake vodka I believe. It literally tastes just like the dunkaroos I had when I was a kid! 🙂 Sipsies!

Tropical-green/white cowl-neck top: NY&Co.
Silver necklace: NY&Co.

IMG_6222Today’s outfit:
White/black floral-pixelated cardigan: H&M
Teal tank: Old Navy
Silver/turquoise Bracelet: H&M
Black skinny-pants: H&M
Mint heels: Macy’s

IMG_6223These are my favorite heels I own!!!! They’re ridiculously comfortable while maintaining their eye-catching nature. And the bottoms are leopard-printed…meow 🙂

I’ve got to stop putting my hand on my hip in every picture…le sigh. It’d also be nice if this cold-weather went away so I could start taking some outdoor shots (wishful thinking)!

XO Have a safe weekend!

Meowza: Red, Gold, and Leopard Print

Red/gold bracelet: Ann Taylor

20140203-223125.jpgThis is my go-to makeup look, and it takes approx 10 minutes. Before I dipped my toes in the world of modern non-drugstore makeup, I had (typically) the same look day in and day out, with the exception of eye shadow changes. The look is:

L’oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup in Porcelain – W1 – this has been my go-to foundation for years. After a horrible bout of acne all through high school and a 12-month Accutane fix, I have finally been blessed with somewhat normal skin. It spreads on super thin so you don’t have that unnatural look. Porcelain is a bit too light for me these days (I’ve always been very pale), but the next step up always seemed to make my skin look too dark. They have way more variety these days and I could probably find a better match, but I currently prefer to try new products rather than go back to old 🙂

Hard Candy Blush Crush Baked Blush in Bombshell – rather than use this as a blush, I use it as a bronzer to lift my skin back to a more natural glow. I love this bronzer, and have never found another one I like more (yet).

Eyelash Curl

Covergirl Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara in Black Brown 835 – I will never stop carrying this with me. For a drugstore brand, it is fantastic. It goes on smooth, doesn’t clump lashes, and doesn’t smudge. Enough said.

Sephora Collection Long Lasting 12-Hr Wear Eyeliner in Dark Brown 06 – felt-tip liners are my favorite. I struggle with pencil liners for the top lashes, but felt-tip liners glide across and the color-payoff is wonderful. This is for my top lashes only.

Almay Intense I-Color in Raisin – this under eyeliner is just enough to add depth under my lashes, while still looking natural.

Revlon Lip Butter in various shades (this one is Candy Apple) – I can’t go on enough about these lip butters. I own something like 7-8 shades and I wear them all. GO BUY ONE! They’re awesome. It’s truly like colorful lip balm, it’s so soft and stays on for ages.

20140203-223202.jpg

My best friend worked at Ann Taylor a while back and every time I went in to visit, I tried this bracelet on. I absolutely adore it, and being my best friend, she bought it for me as a surprise gift 🙂 I love her to pieces, and not just because she has great taste!

20140203-223225.jpgLastly, I subscribed to Birchbox last month and I got my January box last week 🙂 This Ruby Wing Color-Changing Polish was one of my favorite pieces that they sent (along with “whish” body butter in pomegranate and “Beauty Protector” leave-in conditioner!). You can see it painted on my ring finger in the close-up shot above. It’s supposed to appear as gold sparkles inside and more bronze-y outside. I’m a bad blogger and can’t remember the name of the polish. I tried looking it up and the closest one I can come to is Sunflower. Regardless, I can’t tell the difference, but I only have one coat on. I still love a pretty sparkle!
