Well, this will be my first and last post about Glossybox. Not because they are bad (oh VERY much so the opposite), but because I’m going on a spending freeze for the first quarter of 2015. I have canceled all … Continue reading
Hello lovelies 🙂 It’s the first Monday after the New Year, which for many of us, means it’s the first full-week back to work since mid-December. Never fear though, Makeup Monday is here to get us kicked off with an … Continue reading
I know I’m a little late with this one, but it’s time to get some of these pictures out of my camera’s queue! Sephora was running some pretty amazing promotions through the month of November, and the beauty geek in me couldn’t resist! My NY resolutions definitely involve spending less in the beauty (and clothing!) department, but more on that in a future post.
Also, I feel it goes without saying that I am a huge set junkie (if it’s a decent value, and items I have actually been wanting to try), because it allows me to try so many different products, colors, scents, and brands without having to commit to the price tag of a full-sized item I may not even like!
First off? The legendary 20% off everything deal (VIB):
This set is broken out into four color quads: reds (Hourglass, Laura Mercier, Kat Von D, and Sephora); nudes (Stila, Laura Mercier Gloss, BareMinerals, TooFaced, Make Up For Ever); berried (OCC, Tarte, Fresh, Buxom); and pinks (Tarte, TooFaced, Benefit, and Bite). I have wanted this set ever since it came out, and the fact that I got it for 20% off is just icing on the cake. Lipsticks are my favorite beauty item to
As I have declared multiple times on my blog by this point, I am in love with Fresh. This lip polish is super hydrating (and doesn’t even taste bad if you get any in your mouth!), the serum makes my lips feel softer than ever before (truly), and I’m already a lippie junkie. I like that I have now added rose to my collection 🙂
Alright, alright. This was a purchase I considered for quite some time, and ultimately couldn’t pass up. Most of the products are full-size. Yep, you read that right! The Chloe Rollerball ($25), Formula X Polish in Ignite ($10.50), Smashbox BB Cream ($39), and NARS Blush in Orgasm ($30) are among my favorites (and more than make up the value of the set!).
A variation of deluxe-sized samples (more Fresh, yes!)
Orders #2 & #3 were actually made back to back. I knew I wanted both sets, but since you are only entitled to one code per order (and both items qualified for free shipping), I decided to place them separately to get each of the different bag promos they had going on at the time.
I love the skin care sets that Sephora puts together, because I’m constantly searching for that perfect combo of products that will prevent wrinkles, moisturize, and cleanse! This set fit the bill and came with a bunch of unique items that I may not have picked up on my own. The deodorant (if only it were an anti-antiperspirant!), body oil wash, and rosewater balancing mist have been my favorites so far. I gave the hand-cream away. I’m rather surprised I didn’t like the scent with all its orange-influences, but I couldn’t smell fruit at all–just strange floral notes.
Because you can never have too many samples (just kidding…but I am going through them pretty quickly).
Josie Maran “Argan Natural Wonders” set: Free (used 500 points)
What have your beauty hauls included lately?
XO Loves! Merry Christmas Eve Eve 😀
Happy Monday! Let’s start off this week with a positive attitude, mmk? 🙂
I may have an important paper due tomorrow, but it won’t get me down! I have a lot of fun things I’m looking forward to this week: Friendsgiving, dinner at a new restaurant downtown, a 5k, and going out with some of my lovely co-workers on Friday night! In addition, I had the most heart-warming, feel-good weekend just doing things I love 🙂
-Ryan and I went for a short wine-tasting and then picked up our very first Christmas tree together on Saturday! We got a pretty good deal–$99 for a pre-lit 6.5 ft tree. I cried for a couple of seconds because I’m a sappy-face for it being our first Christmas under the same roof 🙂 This is Yoshi’s first Christmas too, and I have plenty more things like stockings and lights to pick up before this girl can call her decorating done!
-Slow-cooking: I went to the grocery on Friday night and got enough ingredients to make three different recipes in my slow cooker for the week. First up: barley-spiked winter casserole. It’s got carroway seeds, carrots, parsnips, and a lot of celery root in it. Add a can of tomatoes, veggie broth, mix in some barley, and top with parsley and you’ve got a bowl of yum perfect for a cold winter’s night! We ate the whole crockpot serving (5.5 qts) in 24 hours!
-Baking: I whipped up some gingersnaps, snickerdoodles (yet to bake), and chocolate chip cookies yesterday. I won’t go into details about how it was my ugliest looking batch of chocolate chip cookies to date, but at least they tasted good!
-SNOW! We woke up to about 6 inches of snow this morning. It was simply beautiful. The sun hadn’t come up yet, but the snow was so bright it let off this brilliant blue hue to our backyard! Fall is my favorite season, snow or no snow. And there’s absolutely no reason to complain about it snowing “already,” its the middle of November! (3 weeks till vacay…)
A Holiday Beauty Wantlist
Yves Saint Laurent Touch Éclat in Luminous Radiance or Luminous Ivory ($41) – this is definitely a luxury item I don’t need, but I’ve been eyeballing it for a year. Can I really justify $41 for it? Probably not. I’m not sure which color would look better on me. Luminous Radiance would be better suited for me since its for fair to light complexions with pink undertones (bingo), but both swatches look like variations of my skintone.
Fresh Lotus Eye Gel ($48) – if there was such a thing as a love affair with beauty products, I’d be married to “Fresh” brand. I haven’t tried a single one of their products I haven’t loved. I ordered the Dare to Bare Sugar Lip Ritual set last week, but my Sephora order is currently in their backlog due to an overwhelming response to their 20% off sale. Out of all the flaws and features of my face, I am most self-conscious about my eyes. I am plagued with baggy eyes and fine lines, and as I get closer to 30, I am much more aware of wrinkle-formation. This gel promises to alleviate “puffiness, dark circles, and signs of fatigue.” Sign me up!
Dior Addict Lip Glow ($33) – this is a “nice to have,” not “need to have.” Mostly, I’m just curious about all the hype surrounding this cult-favorite. Some swear by it, others claim its not worth the hype. I’m too much of a germaphobe to test it out in store, especially when…
Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo in Blonde ($23) – now here is a cult-favorite worth the hype! This company makes the most beautiful brow-products for every hair color and skin tone! I just can’t justify spending $23 on colors I probably have in my eyeshadow collection! Haha
Pixi Ultimate Beauty Kit – 2nd Edition ($34) – after regularly using the Plum Quartz mineral palette I bought on my birthday (it’s a staple in my daily makeup bag!), I have faith that the rest of the eyeshadows are just as good of quality! I like the mix of cool tones and warm tones, and am curious as to the effectiveness of the blushes and highlighters! I also love that Pixi’s brand is so accessible as they carry it in most (all?) Targets!
Clinique Chubby Stick Intense Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Grandest Grape ($17) – a perfect cranberry color to add to my fall lippies collection! My best and I swatch the chubby sticks every time we go into Sephora. Maybe one of these days I’ll pick this up and actually buy it! It’s also a full-size part of this Holiday Gift Set which only retails for $22 more than the lip balm itself!
Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask ($26) – this product has been lingering in my Sephora basket since it came out last winter, but it’s just always one I parted with to narrow down my collection. I have terribly dry lips and I will try almost anything to find a good treatment and moisturizer for them in the winter-time! The complaints about the packaging breaking easily has been enough to keep me at bay, but some day this will be in my lip drawer.
Pixi Glow Tonic ($29) – this glow tonic is at the top of my list, and the next time I am in Target, I will probably pick up a bottle (if its in stock). It isn’t cheap, but this keeps popping up on my instagram feed, and maybe it’s the name, but I. need. it. Ginseng and aloe? Nothing like a little extra glow to add to your winter complexion 🙂
NARS Virtual Domination Cheek Palette ($65) – this is second to top on my wish list. I can’t see myself ever shelling out $65 on blushes for myself, but I am seriously mesmerized by this palette. I love NARS because they are so brazen with their product names. A single 0.16 oz NARS blush retails for $30, so this set with 3-0.15 oz blushes (Sex Fantasy, Deep Throat, and Final Cut), a 0.15 oz highlighting blush powder (Miss Liberty), and 0.35 oz bronzer (Laguna) is an amazing deal! Any friends out there reading this? This is what I want, ha 🙂 Their lip pencil collection is a pretty good deal, but I’ve got a million and one lippies I still need to go through!
Sonia Kashuk Holiday Limited Edition All That Jazz 10 Piece Brush Set ($34.99) – is that a mouthful or what? But seriously, these brushes are gorgeous. I have more than enough eye brushes, but what I don’t have are many brushes for the face. My current face brush collection includes: an all-over powder brush & a contouring blush brush. That’s it! This set has plenty of contouring pieces and the gold and black frame with white bristles just scream luxury!
I haven’t forgotten about my 30 day challenge, just haven’t got around to shooting yet. Look for some updates soon! 🙂
What’s on your holiday wishlist?! Comment below and let me know 🙂
It was my birthday and I was in Target, so naturally, purchases are guilt-free! Especially these beauty goodies…
I’ve been monitoring Pixi by Petra and Sonia Kashuk for about a month or two now, as I knew Target carried both brands and they were rather new to me. Pixi does not do any testing on animals, nor do they use any suppliers that follow those practices. I also love the simplicity of the brand and packaging. They don’t try to overdo it and the product is still lovely. Sonia Kashuk, on the other hand, popped onto my radar when I saw the brand won multiple spots out of 31 winners on the CEW Insiders 2014 Beauty Awards. Out of 5 submitted products, they placed 3 winners, and were a finalist for a 4th in the entire beauty industry! Was I missing out on something right under my nose??
Pixi Mesmerizing Mineral Palette in Plum Quartz – I fell in love with this $12 palette through Pixi’s instagram page.
As you can see, there is quite a bit of color payoff, which is one of the reasons I had to have it. Plums, pinks, and browns are perfect fall colors, though I like to wear them year-round with my fair skin-tone. I can’t wait to experiment more with Plum Quartz!(Left to right: Pixi Radiant Rose, SK Bronzer, SK Blush, SK Bronzer/Blush blended, SK Sheer Pink Lust, SK Illuminator [thick swatch], Elf Pink Balm, L’Oreal Paris Doutzen Lipstick)
Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm in Radiant Rose – this pretty rose hue goes on lighter than the stock swatch indicates. It glides on creamy and has quite a lot of color payoff for being marketed as a “balm.” It’s rather pricey at $14 a tube, but I would definitely try Pixi’s other colors if they were to go on sale after loving this product this much.
Sonia Kashuk Chic Luminosity Bronzer/Blush Duo in Glisten – to the naked eye (and in Target’s harsh florescent light), it was difficult to really tell the difference between the three different $12.99 options–Glow, Glisten, and Glimmer–so I picked the middle option. This was a CEW Winner, and with its two-in-one compact, it’s easy to carry around and mixes like a dream to offer that perfect summer glow.
Sonia Kashuk Shine Luxe Lip Color in Sheer Pink Lust ($10.99) – this was another CEW winner, so I picked up a handsome nudey-pink color to fill in a gap I had in my lippy drawer. I didn’t realize it mimics the texture of a gloss (which I usually avoid), but it was wearable for a few hours before I ended up wiping it off. I won’t knock the product, as I know my comfort level was a bit off.
Sonia Kashuk Perfecting Translucent Illuminator ($14.99) – I own and have sampled plenty of BB and CC creams, but I wanted a cream that just brightens skin tone without feeling like you’re caking on the makeup. I am very pleased at how blendable it was, though the smell is somewhat offputting. The cream is a glistening gold and melts with your skin, so as not to leave harsh toning effects. I swatched a thick layer to show how it comes out of the tube.
e.l.f. Lip Balm in Pink – e.l.f. is another one of those brands that I always overlooked, but after seeing so many positive reviews on beauty blogs, and for how dang cheap the brand was, I figured ‘what could it hurt?’ I have not yet applied this $3 balm to my lips, but the color for the price is about expected.
e.l.f. Lip Exfoliator – if you like brown sugar at all, stop what you are doing and spend the $2 it takes to buy this beauty product. It scrubs your lips as you apply it back and forth, and leaves a soft, waxy texture that you can leave on to keep them moistened. I like to rinse it off, however, and apply lipstick immediately afterwards for a soft, hydrated lip full of color.
L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Lipstick in Doutzen’s Nude – this was the biggest let down of the beauty haul, at least by first reactions alone. This lipstick went on so wet, and was nearly impossible to get an even coat. The color itself is supposed to be light, but I thought it was almost like a sheer gloss.

Good morning everyone! Labor Day Weekend is right around the corner!
To be honest, I’m a little surprised I even survived this past weekend. Friday was quite literally the worst night of my life. My dog was attacked by another dog in my neighborhood.
Yoshi (20 lbs) was meeting a husky (50-60 lbs), and I don’t know if the husky got spooked or what, but as soon as Yoshi was within reach, he chomped down on Yoshi’s snout, lifted him off the ground and started shaking him. I was screaming and picked Yoshi up while the other guy was using both hands to pry open his dog’s mouth. After what felt like eternity (probably 5-7 seconds), the husky released Yoshi’s snout and I made off like a bat out of Hell. I hugged him so tightly the whole walk (run) back to my apartment and immediately inspected him when I crossed the threshold. Nothing. No blood, no marks, his eyes were fine, nothing. In addition, he was acting fine. At this point, I became the definition of hysterical. I don’t think I’ve ever cried that hard. My baby was somehow okay 😥
He probably became the definition of spoiled at this point, because I was ready to give him whatever he wanted! I know it’s not the owners fault and I would never report it unless I knew the dog had this kind of repetitive behavior. But man, it was terrifying to go through. Luckily, he has acted like nothing ever happened.
The rest of my weekend was less eventful, but still tiring. I slept like a rock on Friday night (go figure), and then Ryan and I went for a swim at the Rec Center to prep for our triathlon this weekend. Did I mention this is the first time I’ve been in a pool since before I got LASIK back in December? Good thing my swim portion of my tri is only 250 yards and waist-deep! Haha
Sunday we biked 8.5 miles and only ran 2 because the heat and sun was making us both sick. The rest of the day was spent playing with Yoyo, updating my closet app, and binge-watching TV.
What a rollercoaster of physical and mental fatigue it was. But you know what? Everything is alright, today is a new day, this week is a new week! 😀
I also am wearing LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube in “Menatour” which I received in my Birchbox a couple months back 🙂 It’s a little more purple than it photographs. The texture is buttery smooth, without any runniness. It also has a faint mint smell on application.
Also, stay TUNED for details on my very first beauty GIVEAWAY. I promise, you will not want to miss it!
What are you looking forward to the most this week? XO
Good morning everyone! Only 2 more days till it’s Friday 😉
As the title indicates, I picked up a few new beauty items in July. I’m a bit on beauty-overload right now, which shouldn’t be a bad thing. But if I’m being completely honest, I bought way more than what is pictured below (if you believe “more” is possible), I just took back a lot of things out of guilt. Rightfully so! What’s the point in not buying any new clothes for a year if you’re just going to transfer that spending habit to something equally dangerous?!
I have so many options right now, I have a whole “giveaway” bag I’ve been collecting new, unused items in. I think I’m hitting the pause button on beauty purchases for a while, if this blog doesn’t change it’s title to “No New Beauty Items for a Year” altogether come September (kidding!…maybe).

What beauty items are on your hit list this summer?!
When the gorgeous Jacqueline from A Vibrant Day announced she was having a Cynthia Rowley beauty giveaway a couple weeks ago, I knew it was fate 🙂 Man, I have been lusting after this set for months, especially after falling in love with my silver eyeliner I received in one of my spring Birchbox boxes. Somehow, I managed to win!!! AHHH
- Eye Shadow Palette – No. 2
- Mini Creamy Lip Stain in Valentine
- Mini Eyeliner in Black
- Neoprene Confetti Bag
- Full-size Eyeliner in Sky Blue (extra!)
- A 5×7 in. painting by Terrance Wright
- Benefit mini-Porefessional primer
- Besame Sweetheart Balm
- A sweet little thank you note for entering her giveaway
She’s seriously the best. Go show her some love on her page 🙂
I used Marshmallow all over as a base coat, then applied Confetti on the lid, blending in Cotton Candy into the outer corner. I used Licorice in both the crease and as a lower-lash liner, finishing with Sky Blue eyeliner on the top lid 🙂
Happy Monday, everyone!
And thanks again to Jacqueline and A Vibrant Day!
After reading about the up and coming beauty/fashion subscription box recommended by For Vanity’s Sake back in May, I knew I had to (cheat) subscribe.
This “Little Luxuries Box” is by a company called “Sunset 45.” It’s $30/month plus $5 for shipping. There are two types of box to choose from:
- The Classic Box – “Select our Classics box for timeless pieces that you can wear season after season. The perfect accessories and beauty items for girls who appreciate understated luxury,” or
- The Lavish Box – “Stay on top of the season with runway-ready fashion and beauty accessories. Our Lavish box is full of decadent adornments for girls who set trends and define taste.”
Yes, I know that this is actually a form of “cheating” for my challenge, as I’m not supposed to buy any new accessories, in addition to clothes, for the whole year. But the box was just too good a deal to pass up. At least initially (more on that later).
“New Tribal” June Lavish Box
Each month has its own theme. When I received my first box in June, I almost fell out of my chair. It was above and beyond my expectation:
Statement Necklace – this necklace is no joke. It is heavy. Probably a 1/2-1 pound if I could guess. But the quality is immediately noticeable, and with it’s bright jewels, it could seriously steal the attention of anyone in the room when presented against a royal blue top.
Full-size OPI polish in “Dating a Royal” – retailing at $9 a pop, I was not expecting them to include a full-size polish!
Full-size NYX Butter Gloss in “Peach Cobbler” – again, full-size? Even at $5 per gloss I was impressed.
7th Heaven “Million Year Mud” Mask – I have not tried this mask yet, but look for it in a future review 🙂
Statement Earrings – I wore these with some polka-dot orange skinnies and a navy tank-top to my best’s rehearsal, and got several compliments on them!
Hello Waffle Blush in “At Least I’ll Look Pretty” – goes on smooth, leaves a soft, glowing finish.
*Bonus* Sabine Pearl Earrings – as a thank you for signing up for their kickoff, they sent me a handwritten note and a pair of extra earrings they had from their May box! How lovely is that?!
I was absolutely smitten by Sunset 45 at this point. All of their jewelry items either came in pretty velvet pouches, or black ribbon-tied boxes. The “luxury” that they were trying to communicate was pretty spot-on. I just wish July’s box could have been better…
“Starry Eyes” July Lavish Box
Ardell Natural Lashes – While the idea is fitting for the theme, I just can’t wear fake eyelashes. I’ve heard good things about “natural” looking lashes, but this particular set isn’t what I’d call “natural.” They’re too thick and would make me look like…well, I’ll just say bad. I look silly in false eyelashes. These will probably be given away 🙂
Rose Gold Star-Cluster Earrings – I actually don’t mind these rose-gold earrings. They are certainly a statement piece, so I would have to wear something really basic with them, but I’ll be trying them on in the future!
Blue Half-Circle Rhinestone Earrings – these earrings look cheap and outdated. I feel like this is something I would have worn in late middle or early high-school, but if I wanted a set like them, I could probably pick them up at Claire’s for a couple bucks. Not a fan.
Rose Gold Starry Bracelet – I’m kind of torn on this piece. I hated it at first, but it’s slowly growing on me. I’m still not sure if I’ll keep it. It isn’t very comfortable and can cheapen up an outfit pretty quickly if you don’t thoughtfully plan it out. It doesn’t look very “luxurious,” in my opinion.
Star-burst Drop Earrings – this is actually my favorite piece in the set. I really, really like these earrings. Another great statement piece.
That’s it. Three pairs of earrings, a (cheap-looking) bracelet, and some fake eyelashes. This was really a let down after my June box. I was hoping for some more beauty products after getting the full-size products in “New Tribal,” but the false eyelashes won’t even work on me. I guess this is a chance you take with subscription boxes. Some you love, and some you hate. I will have to see how August’s box looks before I decide whether to continue my subscription (and recommendation) of the brand. Stay tuned!
